THREE BULGARIAN LIONS

When three lions are born into one of Bulgaria’s worst zoos, an international team pledge to give them a new fate. But with the government against them, can this mission be pulled off in time?

THREE BULGARIAN LIONS premiered on the WaterBear Network’s opening line-up in December 2020. It was featured as the ‘Editors Choice,’ and showcased in Vogue and Realscreen. The film premiered in Sofia, Bulgaria ahead of its worldwide release.

Filmmakers Statement
Bulgaria is a special place for me. I discovered this while filming an incredible story of unconditional love. Marina Georgieva, or as we knew her, the 'mother of the cubs,' stole our hearts. Marina passed away in January 2021 but her legacy lives on. Only through a mother's boundless love were the lion cubs able to thrive despite all odds. Terez and Masoud were released into their forever home in the Netherlands. My wish is that Marina’s story is celebrated by her family, her friends and the Bulgarian community.
